Video Recording Test - Mad Max painting WIP
Trying out Bandicam for the first time, I've heard a lot about this software but never really had a need for video recording.
I ended up playing a song from Mad Max Fury Road and painted in real time for the length of the song.

As you can see (for me anyway) painting takes time, I'll have to do a full painting and speed up the playback time soon. There's so much to the human face it's ridiculous. The slightest change can really make a huge difference when painting the human form. It's very rewarding when you can pull it off though.
I'm using ArtRage in "workbench mode". It has a nice feature of creating a pinned image of the overall painting while you paint up close, plus areas to pin your references. Not only does it show the overall painting but you can paint directly on the thumbnail too. Nice way to have a clutter free work space.

One of these days I'd love to have my own studio where I can work on Oil, Acrylics and digital at the same time. I've only been painting a lot of digital work lately because it fits my current lifestyle(lack of space) while my wife goes to Law School. But this isn't to say I can't work with what I have, same goes for other artists out there. It doesn't matter what medium you choose to express yourself with, if the end result is the same then what does it matter? Whether with a bristle brush or Wacom pen, paint on! Most importantly, tell the world about it!

Traditional artists, if you've been debating whether or not to get into digital painting I would highly recommend taking the plunge. I find when switching from digital to traditional and vice versa, each medium improves.

Thank you for those that take an interest in my work, you have no idea how much that means to me.

There are moments in life when people try and steal your joy. Sometimes it just never fails when your motives are pure and with good intention people will always be ungrateful, or try and take advantage of you. It's moments like this is when I truly appreciate my artwork. Because it's something I can call my own, something where I receive exactly what I put into it. It's freedom, rewarding and a thing of beauty.

Just a little background on this piece, there was an auction where I donated a choice of any print from my gallery. The winner of this auction actually bid more than what she would've spent by just ordering directly from my gallery. It was for a good cause though but I felt she should get a print she'd really like. Something she could call her own. I asked what that might be and her response was perfect. :)

I thought about adding something in the background to balance out the void so Allyson if you like the eagles in this I can leave them. If not they can easily be removed. :)

Slowly but surely the colors and details are starting to come through. Still need to work on her legs a bit more but I'm finally starting to like how the upper half looks.
It's late...errr...early. I better get some sleep, have a great weekend all.

Lazare's Digital ArtYou can tell without a cinder of a doubt that you've poured your heart into this, and the meticulousness and the amount of work speaks for itself. However the eagles fare, I think they are a wonderful addition to emphasize atmosphere and mood - they almost inform Supergirl's intent, help symbolize her stance and determination here. It's a wonderful piece, man.

Allyson CrespoI had NO FEAR that you would do this justice when I asked you for it but this is stunning! Surpasses every single expectation, hope and thought that I could have come up on my own! The Eagles are perfect! I was actually contemating getting an eagle print originally so this is fantastic! I have always felt that when you out limitations and restrictions on the abilities of artists, you fail to allow them the ability to produce wondrous pieces of work. That said, I could not have dreamt or imagined this piece any better than you have Steve. You are beyond masterful! tha ms again for allowing me the opportunity to essentially exploit those talents. When this piece is hanging from the walls of my office, I know I'll be able to look at it and smile every single time lay eyes on it! Not to mention my clients will think I'm a total bada___. 😉😉😉

I was recently asked to represent Artist of the Year for South Dakota by TOSCA Magazine. TOSCA Magazine promotes local theatre and artists for the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. You can learn more about them here:
Twin Cities TOSCA

I'm honored to be considered because there are a lot of talented individuals in South Dakota but they picked me for the 2015-16 American Artists Series. I'm very grateful.

I think it's safe to show this now, since the wedding was this past weekend. I was recently asked to create something as a wedding gift for a couple I had the pleasure in meeting this year.
It was to be a painting of the moment he proposed to her, and it just so happened the bride to be's sister was standing on the shore taking a picture as it took place. The photo reference was pretty small and blurry so I had to keep the details down to a minimum, I also created a little drama in the clouds but the overall scene is accurate. They were both happy with the results so I'd call that a win.
Congratulations Jaimie and Joe on your nuptials. Thanks to Roxanne for entrusting me to create this for them.

I've started adding the details of Supergirl. I made a few revisions and tweaks to her facial features and felt this look is more true to the character. I think you can start to see in this one how the background will really draw out the color and details in her. ... See MoreSee Less

I wanted to share a message I received tonight, I've blurred out the name and places to protect this person's identity. The message was to express their appreciation of a particular print they have but it's how they said it that inspired me. It's messages like this that make me realize artwork can go beyond the realm of just complimenting the décor in your home.

We all have talents, it might not be painting, writing, singing, dancing or athleticism but it's that one thing you're good at. That one thing you can call your own and where your passion lies. It's something you shouldn't lose sight of, because it may seem like a hobby or something trivial to you but it could be that very thing that touches someone's life in a positive way. When you influence people in a positive way and uplift them, then you're accomplishing something great.

This person doesn't realize that the message they just sent really inspired me to paint more. Speaking from the heart and stirring emotion in a person is a talent within itself. So thank you Anonymous. May you have brighter days ahead.

Sometimes a nice subtle background is all you need. I usually don't paint like this where I do a sketch, then background, then the main subject matter at the end. I usually get too impatient and just dive right in with color and broad messy strokes.
However, I realize it's good to step outside of the norm and challenge yourself. It just might yield better results than what you're used to.
Something about this color palette really sits well with me. If I can pull it off correctly the upper half of Supergirl will be basking in the warm glow of sunlight.
To Be Continued....

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Commissioned Artwork

I’ve been asked to do a lot of different artwork in my art career, from down right inappropriate which I respectfully declined, to something amazing that was featured on TV or Cinema. Regardless of what’s being asked it’s always interesting to hear the back story or the reason behind the request. Whether it’s something like memorial of a loved one, to a fictional character in a novel or if it’s artwork based on a common interest of a friend or family, there’s always a passion behind each request I enjoy...

Painting Featured in Vogue Magazine, January 2015 issue.

I wanted to wait until the magazine started hitting the shelves here in the USA to share the news and some friends recently told us they’ve already seen it circulating! A painting of mine is featured in this month’s issue of Vogue Magazine. Look for the section entitled “Vogue’s Gallery”. Some nice opportunities have come knocking since the release of this issue and recently I have been offered a License agreement for an art distributor for Amazon, Wayfair, Overstock, Kohls, and Target to name a few. It is...

Art Of Steve Goad Art Book

I’ve been wanting to create one of these for a while now. This is my first art book showcasing 30 full pages (close to 40 works) displaying various illustrations and paintings created in Oil, Acrylic and Digital mediums. I didn’t want to put a lot of text in this book, I just said what I needed to say on the first page and the rest are my paintings. No text, no titles…just art.  I have to say it was nice creating something where my URL isn’t plastered on every image. This book displays a nice variety of digital and...

Hey guys, I’m really asking those that see this post really read what I have to say here because it’s a subject that has really struck a nerve with me. I’m asking anyone reading this to help me make a difference. Last night as I was about to close things down and go to bed, I see one of my own artwork pop-up in my news feed with my name/url erased. The image is one of my most stolen/circulated pieces here on Facebook and Pinterest. I was curious to see what kind of page it was and discovered it is a public speaker who...

Not every day you make it in your Hometown paper!

A story was done on Lori and I in our hometown paper yesterday, it ‘s about some of our accomplishments and hurdles we faced. I say we because even though the article states I went through a hard time it’s easy to forget it’s even harder for the one by your side while you’re going through it. My wife is my biggest supporter, she’s the first to tell people about my work, the first to hit “like” on my Facebook page and the first to talk to the Newspapers about me saying “I have a good story for...
